Banco Chinchorro Expedition - Trip Highlights
Our expedition team just returned from the Banco Chinchorro Biosphere Reserve - an atoll reef lying off the southeast coast of Mexico. The atoll is part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and has been a protected national park since 1996.
We’ll publish a full Expedition Report soon, but for now a few highlights …
Exploring the reef with a local marine scientist who had not yet had a chance to dive the area
Helping with shark counts
Coral colony photogrammetry
Diving with the ranger whose in charge of supervising the park. Prior to our visit, he had not had any opportunities to dive the reefs and experience the wondrous environment he’s tasked with protecting.
… and having an overall blast with fellow Hydrous ocean lovers!
