Blacktip Shark Tagging Project
deploying the long line
World renowned fish biologist, professor at the University of Hawai'i and National Geographic researcher, Alan Friedlander and his lab joined us here at Kalauapapa National Historical Park to study blacktip shark congregations in the shallow water pools at shipwreck beach.
For years, blacktip sharks have congregated in a tide pool just off the shores of Kalaupapa. It is unusual for blacktips to stay in such shallow waters for prolonged periods of time, and this research project aims to learn more about their behavior and movement patterns via use of acoustic transmitters and receivers.
